The Right to Self-defense bill (HB 1134) passed the Senate today, 30-1. Congratulations to all of you who took action. This bill probably would not have made it through the Senate without your strong support.
HB 1134 must now pass the House because of positive amendments added in the Senate. Your state representatives need to hear from you again. (For background, click here.)
Action
Contact both your state representatives and ask them to support HB 1134 with the Senate amendments. You can leave a message for them at the Capitol, Mon. through Fri.: (605) 773-3851. Your message can be as simple as “Please vote YES on HB 1134 with Senate amendments.”

You can also find the names of your representatives on the State Legislative website, along with their contact info here if you would like to email or call them directly.
HB 1173, the CCW in parks bill
As you may remember, it is currently illegal to carry a handgun for self-defense in any South Dakota state park, campground, lakeside or recreational area. HB 1173 would limit the authority of any state agency, like Game Fish and Parks, to promulgate rules restricting concealed carry. The bill has passed the House, and is scheduled for a vote in the Senate State Affairs committee early Monday, Feb 13.
If you would like to contact the committee, you can email them at the addresses listed below. Your message need be no more than “Please vote YES on HB 1173.”
