Right now, the U.S. Senate is considering more anti-gun amendments to S.
397, the gun maker protection bill.
S. 397 Sponsor and NRA board member Larry Craig agreed to allow a "lock-up-your-safety" trigger lock amendment, which was attached to the bill yesterday with a vote of 70-30. While this amendment does not require you to use the lock once you have been forced to buy it, it obviously brings us one step closer to the anti-gunner's goal of locking up all handguns.
Unfortunately, Sen. Craig has stated that the "strategy this time would not be to dump the bill but remove anything objectionable in conference with the House of Representatives."
This is exactly the same failed strategy that gave us the original 1994 Clinton Semi-auto Ban. In November of 1993, pro-gun Senators allowed the Clinton Ban to be attached to an important crime bill - arguing that they would remove the Ban later in conference! It is also the same failed strategy that allowed a boatload of gun control amendments to be attached to last year's gun maker protection bill, including the Semi-auto Ban.
Despite these failures, Sen. Craig and the NRA have adopted this SAME FAILED STRATEGY, and the "lock-up-your-safety" amendment has already been attached to the bill. Now rabid anti-gunners like Sen. Diane Feinstein and Sen. Frank Lautenberg are moving in with more anti-gun amendments like ammo bans and a new semi-auto ban.
But there is still time to stop them, if you take action now. The NRA said that they would only support a clean bill. S. 397 is no longer clean. Please call and ask the NRA to keep their word.
Action:
1. Call NRA-ILA Grassroots Division at (800) 392-8683. Tell them to kill/table S. 397 and start over because it now contains gun control.
2. Call Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist at (202) 224-3344 and ask him to vote against S.397 because it has now become a gun control bill.
3. Call Senator John Thune at 1-866-850-3855 and ask him to vote against S.397 because it has now become a gun control bill.
The Senate is debating more
anti-gun amendments as this is being written, and the final vote on S.
397 could come anytime today. PLEASE CALL IMMEDIATELY.
